Rose Tyler opened her eyes, light flooding in as she sat up. She got out of bed and dressed, still half asleep. Suddenly she heard a knocking at the door, and in came her mum, Jackie.
"Happy birthday, Rose!" she said excitedly.Rose rubbed her eyes, then turned round and walked over to her mother. Jackie was holding in her hands a large package and a small envelope with the words, "To my sweetheart on her special day" scribbled on the front. She handed them to Rose.
"Thanks," she sighed, nodding in gratitude. She dropped them both on the bed and continued towards the bathroom to brush her hair.
"Well, go on and open it!" Jackie exclaimed brightly. Rose walked back into the bedroom and picked up the envelope first. She tore it open neatly and pulled a card out. It read,
"To my dearest Rose,
I hope you have a great birthday. Congrats on your 23rd. I've got something on its way, and it might be a bit late. The gift you are receiving now is not from me.But enjoy.
Love,
Mum."
Rose put it down, smiling in thanks. Next, she picked up the package and unwrapped it, a hint of excitement on her face. Inside was a gorgeous, blue hoodie with a beautiful rhinestone heart in the middle. She walked over to her mum.
"Oh, thank you. It's beautiful!" she said happily.
"It's from Mickey," Jackie replied.
"Oh."
"My gift to you is coming."
"Okay," replied Rose anxiously, wanting to know what it was.
She strolled into the bathroom, smiling widely, and went to brush her hair. It was a mess. She had been tossing and turning all night, and knew that her hair would look awful.
After brushing it, she headed down to the sitting room for some visiting with the friends that her mum had said would be there. Only Jake and Mickey showed up.
Finally, Rose went to the kitchen to see her mum. There she found her fixing breakfast.
"What's this gift that's supposed to be coming?" she asked politely.
"You'll see when it comes," she repied, looking out the window. Suddenly, her mobile rang.
"Hold on," she said to Rose as she left the room. About ten seconds later, she came back, smiling insanely. She giggled a bit, then turned to Rose.
"It's here!" she said excitedly. Rose walked to he door, expecting some sort of package.
But what she saw in front of her made her scream louder than she had ever before.
